Edinburgh is the national capital of Scotland - a city steeped in history and tradition, it was the seat of the Scottish parliament until the union of parliaments in 1707. 1999 saw the return of a new Scottish parliament to Edinburgh and a new dawn for government in Scotland.
Aside from its status as national capital, Edinburgh is one of Europe's leading financial centres and a base for several UK fund managers. The city has a mature and experienced professional infrastructure in which lawyers play a prominent role. Scotland's supreme courts have their seat in Edinburgh in the historic old Parliament House.
